Book Signing: Eric Buckland, Author of 5 books about Mosby's Rangers
Eric Buckland has written five books about some of the men who rode with the 43rd Battalion Virginia Cavalry – Mosby’s Rangers – during the Civil War. His first book, Mosby’s Keydet Rangers, is about the 58 men who attended the Virginia Military Institute and rode with Mosby’s Rangers. He received the United Daughters of the Confederacy's Jefferson Davis Historical Gold Medal on June 6th, 2011 for the book. Buckland’s Mosby Men series of four books tells the stories of another 110 of Mosby’s men. He received another Jefferson Davis Historical Gold Medal for that series on October 3, 2013.
Buckland received a commission as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army in 1977. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1999 after a 22-year career which included multiple assignments as a Special Forces Officer. He had multiple tours in El Salvador, Honduras and Panama in the 1980’s. Some of his awards include the Ranger and Special Forces tabs, the Special Operations Combat Diver Badge, the Master Parachutist Badge, and the Combat Infantryman’s Badge.
He is a member of the Mosby Heritage Area Interpretive Group, Vice President of the Stuart-Mosby Historical Society and is featured in the DVD entitled “Mosby’s Combat Operations in Fairfax County”.
