America loses up to 40 percent of its food to landfills - the equivalent of $165 billion each year. Researchers estimate that reducing food losses by just 15 percent would be enough to feed more than 25 million Americans every year.
If you love food, but hate waste join the Capital Area Food Bank on Friday, September 27 for a panel discussion with food waste expert Ben Simon, Founder of the Food Recovery Network at the University of Maryland, and other experts and practicioners from government, business and non-profit sectors. The 2013 Northern Virginia Hunger Summit is an opportunity to begin a dialogue among leaders in the Greater Washington region about this critical issue in order to identify solutions for effectively reducing waste and recovering food.
