Executive Director
Position Overview
The Executive Director provides strategic leadership and operational oversight to advance the mission and core values of the organization. This role ensures financial sustainability, strengthens community partnerships, and fosters a collaborative work environment.
Executive Leadership
- Provide visionary leadership and guide the organization in fulfilling its mission.
- Collaborate with the Board of Directors and staff to set organizational goals and strategic priorities.
- Develop an annual budget and action plan to achieve goals and ensure effective execution.
- Build and maintain key stakeholder relationships, including Arcola United Methodist Church, the Loudoun Human Services Network, and major donors.
- Oversee day-to-day operations to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.
- Work with the Finance Manager and Director of Operations to develop and monitor the annual budget, monthly financials, audits, and IRS 990 filings.
- Provide on-site operational support as needed and act as an emergency backup.
- Lead monthly volunteer training sessions.
- Develop and implement an annual fundraising plan.
- Work with the Fundraising Committee to identify new financial opportunities and execute fundraising strategies.
- Research, write, and submit grant applications in collaboration with the Board and Grant Committee.
- Plan and oversee fundraising events such as the DSFP Charity Golf Tournament.
- Cultivate relationships with individual, corporate, foundation, and community donors.
- Serve as the official spokesperson for the organization.
- Represent DSFP in community groups such as the Loudoun Human Services Network, Loudoun Food Provider Group, and the Loudoun Chamber of Commerce.
- Develop partnerships with other food providers and human services nonprofits to collaborate on initiatives.
- Ensure effective marketing and communication, including newsletters, website updates, annual reports, donor communications, and press releases.
- Provide monthly financial and operational reports to the Board.
- Attend six annual Board meetings, provide updates, and follow up on assigned action items.
- Engage Board members in DSFP activities and fundraising efforts.
- Equip the Board with tools and resources to serve as ambassadors and fundraisers for DSFP.
- Commitment to DSFP’s mission and long-term success.
- High level of professionalism, integrity, and ethical decision-making.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written).
- Experience in people management, including recruitment, retention, and performance management.
- Executive-level decision-making skills with the ability to align stakeholders.
- Strong relationship-building skills with staff, donors, volunteers, and the community.
- Discretion and judgment in handling guest and donor privacy.
- Experience developing and managing annual budgets and strategic plans.
- Knowledge of social and digital media for brand development.
- Nonprofit management and fundraising experience required.
- Flexible schedule with occasional weeknight and weekend commitments.
- Familiarity with Bloomerang/Qgiv is preferred but not required.
- Bachelor’s degree required.
