Loudoun Chamber Applauds SCC Decision on Greenway Toll Rates
Loudoun County, VA -- The Loudoun Chamber of Commerce today praised the Virginia State Corporation Commission for its decision to deny the request by Dulles Greenway’s parent company to increase toll rates on the roadway. The toll increase request would have raised rates to as high as $8.10 for a single trip during peak driving hours.
Last December, the Loudoun Chamber testified before the State Corporation Commission in opposition to Toll Road Investors Partnership II, L.P.'s application for toll hikes.
“The Loudoun Chamber commends the State Corporation Commission for carefully considering the facts, as presented by the Loudoun County government and the Loudoun County business community, and rejected the Greenway’s toll rate increase request. The Commission wisely concluded, as did the SCC’s Senior Hearing Examiner, that the proposed increased toll rates would exceed the benefit provided to the users and would encourage drivers to avoid the Greenway in favor of local roadways in Loudoun,” said Theo Stamatis, the Loudoun Chamber’s Manager of Government Affairs.
“On behalf of the Loudoun business community, I would like to thank our elected leaders in Loudoun and those who represent us in the Virginia General Assembly for their efforts to protect the interests of not only Greenway users but of the residents who bear the burden of increased vehicular traffic through their neighborhoods,” Stamatis added.
