Loudoun Chamber Launches National Civics Bee® in Loudoun

All Loudoun middle school students are invited to demonstrate their civics knowledge and compete for cash prizes, and County, State, and National titles

Loudoun County, VA—The Loudoun Chamber is proud to announce the launch of the 2025 National Civics Bee® in Loudoun, a new local chapter of a national effort to encourage young Americans to increase their civic awareness and inspire them to engage constructively in their communities.

Hosted in partnership with the U.S. Chamber Foundation, the National Civics Bee® in Loudoun will inspire students to become more informed about American democracy, to engage in their communities, and build greater trust with fellow citizens and America’s institutions. The National Civics Bee® in Loudoun is supported by the Morven Park Center for Civic Impact and the Loudoun School-Business Partnership Executive Council.

“The Loudoun Chamber is excited to bring The National Civics Bee® to our community. This competition will allow our middle school students to demonstrate their command of civics while they inspire other students and adults to commit to enhancing their own civic awareness,” said Loudoun Chamber President Tony Howard.

Students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade from public, private, and home schools are invited to participate. The Civics Bee's first round is an essay competition. Based on the assessment of a blue-ribbon panel of Loudoun community leaders, the top 20 students will advance to an in-person competition.

That in-person competition will be held on March 5, 2025. The top three finalists will receive cash prizes, while the first-place student will advance to the State Civics Bee finals, with a chance to compete in the National Championship in Washington, D.C., where they will compete for prizes worth $50,000 in the Fall of 2025.

“Morven Park Center for Civic Impact looks forward to supporting Loudoun students learning to embrace civic engagement and what it means to become an active, engaged community member now and in the future,” said Stacey Metcalfe, CEO, Morven Park and Chair, Loudoun School Business Partnership Executive Council.

“Fostering a deep understanding of civics and government in young students is critical to the future of American democracy and civic life. The National Civics Bee® provides them a unique platform to showcase their knowledge and become engaged citizens of the future,” said Hilary Crow, VP of Civics at the U.S. Chamber Foundation.
